Brief description of the main scopes

Viktor Tóth is working in the field of plant ecological physiology for nearly 30 years with specialisation on ecophysiology and ecology of aquatic plants in the last two decades. His main area of interest is the importance of trait variability (phenotypic plasticity) in macrophytes specifically and plants in general, and what is its ecological and evolutional significance. He is doing research on the effect of biotic and abiotic factors on growth, production and distribution of macrophytes. He works on the influence of macrophytes on the littoral zones of shallow freshwater lakes: increased sedimentation and nutrient accumulation in the shoreline, changes of light environment in the close surroundings of emergent and submerged macrophytes, the effect of macrophyte decomposition on the carbon and nutrient cycling of the littoral zone. Viktor Tóth had done research on interclonal/intraspecific competition of macrophytes, works with phenology of macrophytes, interested in differences in morphological, physiological, phenological variability of native and invasive macrophytes.
