Research Description |
|
Ichthyology, limnology, ecology (food and feeding, population dynamics, exploitation of fish stocks, lake management, experimental physiology of fish, biodiversity, trophic relationships, modelling of population dynamics and food-webs). He revealed the population dynamics and biological role of pikeperch, the top predator of Lake Balaton, together with the other fish species. He cleared up and quantitatively analyzed the trophic relationships of organisms inhabiting the open waters and littoral region of Lake Balaton, described the global matter- and energy turnover in the lake and the contribution of fish fauna in it. He described the long-term changes taken place in the fish stock and its environmental circumstances, as well as their biological responses. He introduced new methods to the Balaton research, especially for trophic interrelationships, for the description of internal-external regulating mechanisms of populations and for modelling of energy flux along the food-webs. Recently fish species-assemblages in a high number of inflowing waters at the drainage area of Lake Balaton have been described.
